These zipped GPX files contain six routes on Jabal Al Kawr and are available for free. Download the files to a computer, then transfer them to a GPS device such as a Garmin.
The routes range from 8 km to 18 km in length, with a maximum ascent of 1960 m and involve scrambling but no exposure. They are intended for hikers competent in GPS navigation, as the tracks are neither marked nor visible on the ground.
These GPX files are based on my original track records from 2009 to 2011. Their quality is not as high as the data for the Western Hajar, where all tracks were resurveyed between 2018 and 2020 using a newer Garmin device.
A folded printed A2 1:50,000-scale contour map of Jabal Al Kawr is planned for release on this website in winter 2027–2028. In the meantime a Jabal Al Kawr hiking map Oman (PDF) is available for download.
You cannot rely on finding standing water on the mountain, and there are no springs. For most hikers, three days is the maximum duration possible while carrying all supplies including water over this amount of ascent and descent. Three days is enough to ascend and descend by different routes and to explore the plateau.
Every effort has been made in the guidebook Wilderness Trekking Oman and on this website to explain the precautions necessary for walking in this remote and uninhabited mountain area. Mountain travel involves unavoidable natural hazards. Use these GPX files at your own risk.
